J. Peter Kissinger

J. Peter Kissinger is formerly, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a position he assumed in May of 2002. The Foundation is a publicly supported, charitable research and educational organization that was founded by AAA in 1947. Its focus is on ?saving lives through research and education.? The Foundation is supported primarily by contributions from AAA clubs and individual AAA members.
Prior to joining the AAA Foundation, Mr. Kissinger was the Senior Vice President of the Civil Engineering Research Foundation (CERF), the research arm of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). In that capacity, he had executive level responsibility in a range of programs within CERF?s mission ?to foster collaboration and innovation.? Most notably, Mr. Kissinger oversaw the day-to-day management of the CERF Innovation Centers, which provided technology evaluation services for a wide range of technologies across the spectrum of the design, construction, engineering, and environmental markets. Its HITEC Center served the national, state, and local highway community.
Prior to joining CERF in 1992, he was employed in Florida by Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corporation, where he was Director of Strategic Programs. Mr. Kissinger was responsible for introducing new technologies into the business, developing international business, and forming strategic alliances.
Before relocating to Florida, Mr. Kissinger was employed by the National Transportation Safety Board for twelve years, serving the last eight as Managing Director. While there, he was influential in restructuring the Board?s programs to maximize their effectiveness, increase emphasis on surface transportation and introduce enhanced safety technologies throughout the transportation system.
Still earlier he held a variety of assignments with the U.S. Coast Guard, including managing research and development for its Boating Safety Program.
Overall, Mr. Kissinger has over 30 years of progressively responsible experience in research, transportation safety and technology transfer. He has a B.S. in Engineering from the Coast Guard Academy and an M.S. in Operations Research from The George Washington University.
